The Digitrax AR1 Auto-Reverseris a compact DCC accessory that automatically manages track polarity in reverse loop and wye sections of your layout. When a train enters or exits a section where the rails reverse polarity, the AR1 detects the change and switches track polarity seamlessly — eliminating shorts and keeping operations smooth without manual toggles or switching.
Reverse loops and wyes are common track features that create electrical polarity reversals in a layout. Without an auto-reverser, these sections must be manually switched or wired with complex reversing panels. The AR1 simplifies this by automatically handling the transition as trains move through the section.
On most DCC layouts, reverse loops and wyes present a wiring challenge because the left and right rails connect in a way that naturally reverses polarity. Without proper management, this will cause a short as the train crosses the boundary.
The AR1 detects this polarity conflict and flips the section automatically, so operation is uninterrupted and safe — even during multi-operator sessions.
The AR1 interfaces with Digitrax LocoNet-based command stations and boosters. It is often used with boosters such as: Digitrax DCC Boosters, and command stations like Zephyr Express, Evolution Express, or DCS240+.

The AR1 mounts near the reverse section and connects into your LocoNet wiring. Once installed, it monitors track polarity and automatically switches when necessary. This eliminates the need for manual toggles or complex reversing panels.
An auto-reverser is a device that automatically handles track polarity changes in sections such as reverse loops or wyes. It detects a polarity conflict and switches the rails so locomotives can pass without causing shorts.
The AR1 does not replace a booster. It simply handles polarity in reverse sections. It should be used with a Digitrax command station and booster system to provide the necessary DCC power and control signals.
Yes. Large layouts with multiple reverse sections can use more than one AR1 to manage each reversing area independently.
Yes. The AR1 manages track polarity and does not depend on throttle type. Wired and wireless throttles alike benefit from reliable reversing.
