Build one of America’s most powerful warships with this1/800 scale USS Carl Vinson CVN-70model kit fromAcademy Models. This kit represents the third Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier, a cornerstone of U.S. naval power projection since 1982.
The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier commissioned in 1982 and named after Georgia Congressman Carl Vinson, known as “The Father of the Two-Ocean Navy.” Measuring 1,092 feet in length with a flight deck spanning 252 feet, the Carl Vinson displaces over 100,000 tons fully loaded. Powered by two Westinghouse A4W nuclear reactors, the carrier has virtually unlimited range—capable of operating for over 20 years without refueling and traveling more than 1,000,000 nautical miles. The ship’s air wing typically consists of approximately 85-90 aircraft including F/A-18 Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers, E-2C Hawkeyes, and various helicopters. With a crew of over 6,000 personnel (ship’s company and air wing combined), the Carl Vinson serves as a mobile airbase capable of projecting American power anywhere in the world. The carrier has participated in numerous operations including Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and famously served as the burial site for Osama bin Laden in 2011.
This kit is ideal for1/800 scale ship modelerswho appreciate modern naval vessels, U.S. Navy enthusiasts, and collectors interested in aircraft carriers. The 1/800 scale provides impressive size while remaining displayable, making it perfect for showcasing American naval power.
