About the Dassault Mirage III C

The Dassault Mirage III C was France’s first operational Mach 2 fighter, entering service with the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air) in 1961. Featuring a distinctive delta wing configuration and powered by a SNECMA Atar 9B turbojet engine with optional rocket booster, the Mirage III C was designed as a high-altitude interceptor capable of engaging enemy bombers at supersonic speeds. The aircraft’s clean aerodynamic design and powerful engine gave it exceptional performance, reaching speeds over Mach 2 and altitudes above 55,000 feet. Armed with two 30mm DEFA cannons and capable of carrying air-to-air missiles including the Matra R.530 and AIM-9 Sidewinder, the Mirage III C proved highly effective in combat.
