About the Messerschmitt Me.209 V-01:

On April 26, 1939, test pilot Fritz Wendel flew the Me.209 V-01 to a world landplane speed record of 469.22 mph (755.138 km/h), a record that remained unbroken until 1969. Despite sharing the “209” designation with the later Me.209 fighter project, the V-01 was a purpose-built racing aircraft developed from the Bf.109. Its specially modified DB 601ARJ engine, surface evaporation cooling system, and streamlined design made it one of the most advanced speed record aircraft of its era.
