Historical Background:

The Pz.Kpfw.35(t) was originally designed and built in Czechoslovakia as the LT vz. 35 light tank. When Germany occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939, they acquired approximately 244 of these tanks and pressed them into service with the Wehrmacht, designating them Panzerkampfwagen 35(t), with the “t” standing for “tschechisch” (Czech). The 35(t) was a well-designed light tank featuring a 37MM Skoda A3 gun and riveted armor construction. It proved to be reliable and mechanically sound, serving with distinction during the invasions of Poland in 1939 and France in 1940. The 35(t) also saw extensive service during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa on the Eastern Front in 1941, where it equipped several Panzer divisions. Despite being outclassed by heavier Soviet tanks, the 35(t) remained in frontline service until 1942, after which surviving vehicles were relegated to training and security duties. The tank’s reliable Skoda engine and robust construction made it popular with German crews, and it served as a stepping stone in the development of German armored tactics.
